Beauty and the Interview

So, life in college is hectic as usual. I had an interview this week for a Civil Engineering firm in VA ( near D.C., eeeeeeeeeeeeewww, but a job is a job). It was with their environmental department. I hope I don't get it or get another offer because I do not like the idea of D.C.

In more exciting news, one of the people I went to Bristol with threw a Disney party. You were supposed to dress as your favorite Disney Character. I decided to go as Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast. She's not my absolute favorite, but the costume seemed simple and I was almost guaranteed that no one else would show up as her. I thought the hard part was going to be the nose, but that took me like 5 minutes to make out of clay. The skirt was easy but tedious. I cheated a lot on sewing technique because I was in a time crunch. The only part I was disappointed with was the hat. I thought that covering a form would be quicker than sewing a hat and stuffing it. I was wrong. I found a strainer at wal-mart that was the right shape. I removed the handle and covered it in fabric ( along with a wooden ball for the top). However, I discovered that it is relatively difficult to sew a ruffle of bias tape on to the edge of a strainer. So I just had to hot glue the tape to the side( no ruffle ;-( ). I was originally going to make my left arm the handle by making a gold sleeve, but with my nose as the spout, I would not be a very functional tea pot. So I made a handle and sewed it to the back of the shirt. It wasn't perfect. Even with the wire in it, it still didn't sit quite right, but it worked.

The party was fun. There was Aladdin, tinker bell, lady and the tramp, some of the 101 dalmations, 2 lilos 2 peter pans along with Wendy, John and Michael, Winnie the Pooh, Cinderella, Sebastian, Tarzan, Mogli, Alice, Friar Tuck, Jiminy Cricket, Rafiki, Woody, The Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts complete with mallet, and Disney Tourists. But the coolest part was that people dressed up as Lumier and Chip from Beauty and the Beast. I had a son and didn't even know it. The party was a blast. A few of the pictures I took are below. Oh, and I happen to have won the costume contest. I got a disney princess notebook, disney princess lipgloss, and disney princess paddle ball.

I love my little Disney princess! She is so pretty. I am SO glad you had a good time. I'm sorry I couldn't be there.

I am sorry too. You always look good in costume! And for the record, Arnold is the only one who can call me a Disney Princess. And that is mostly because he did so before I caught it (and kinda cause he called me pretty).

Phenom costume. You always could whip up a killer costume on short notice. I'm remembering a certain vampire that took you like all of 20 minutes, many years ago. OK so I do have to say however, that in the straight on shot, the nose looks like you made it out of a condom. Look at it. It does.

Love you

LOVE THE COSTUME! Try to stay out of DC if at all possible...the cost of living is OUTRAGEOUS. Though I could come visit over summers and tour all of the Smithsonian! Hmmmmm....:)

But the more interesting question is... when do you post pictures of the new skirt?
